Orlando Neuropsychology and Counseling Center, LLC was formed in February 2011 by Kristan Olafsson, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, in response to the need in the community for combined assessment, treatment, and cognitive rehabilitation services for persons who have suffered brain injuries, and strokes. In addition, assessment and rehabilitation services are also useful in cases of dementia, cognitive dysfunction, learning disabilities, and ADHD.
Kristjan Olafsson, Ph.D.
Dr. Olafsson has been in the field of psychology for over 20 years, having completed practicums and an American Psychological Association pre-doctoral internship at Crownsville State Hospital in Maryland, with participation in a formal neuropsychology training program. Dr. Olafsson completed a forensic neuropsychology residency with Dr. Aaron Noonberg at the Osler Medical Center in Towson, Maryland. Dr. Olafsson also completed a year long externship at the Maryland General Hospital Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Center; he was employed as a school psychologist in Maryland and Florida; and the consulting neuropsychologist for the Halifax Hospital Traumatic Brain Injury team. Dr. Olafsson has provided courtroom testimony as an expert witness in the field of neuropsychology in both civil and criminal proceedings in multiple Florida counties. Dr. Olafsson provides neuropsychological evaluations for the Veteran's Administration, Fitness for Duty Evaluations, and evaluations required by the Federal Aviation Administration. He is in his 15th year of providing neuropsychological services in Florida with the Neuropsychological Assessment Service. Dr. Olafsson serves as a practicum supervisor for the University of Central Florida Clinical Psychology program. Dr. Olafsson's hobbies include music, writing, and spending time with his wife and two children.
Nicole M. Whitt, Psy.D.
Dr. Nicole M. Whitt received her doctorate
degree in Clinical Psychology from Carlos Albizu University in Miami, Florida
with a specialization in Neuropsychology. Dr. Whitt takes an integrated
approach to therapy, balancing evidence-based therapies with individual patient
needs. Services are provided in English and Spanish. Dr. Whitt believes strongly in the importance of the therapeutic
alliance for effective counseling, and uses a wide range of interventions to
help patients with a variety of mental health issues. In addition to her
seasoned therapy skills, Dr. Whitt has an expansive wealth of experience
providing psychological and neuropsychological evaluations to children and
Dr. Whitt’s pre-doctoral internship was completed at the
Neurobehavioral Institute of Miami, where she provided psychotherapy and
neuropsychological evaluations to local residents. Additionally, she led a
neurocognitive rehabilitation program for geriatric patients diagnosed with
cognitive decline due to dementia, cardiovascular accidents, traumatic brain
injuries, and other causes. During her
doctoral training, Dr. Whitt provided psychotherapy to patients of all ages and
backgrounds, and with a wide range of mental health needs. She also
co-facilitated group therapy for various populations in various settings,
including Vietnam War veterans diagnosed with PTSD at the Miami VA Hospital.
Dr. Whitt also has extensive exposure to crisis intervention gathered as a
crisis mental health specialist during her undergraduate studies at Florida
Dr. Whitt holds her goals as a practitioner close to her
heart. She is dedicated to her patients, and believes in the importance of
unconditional positive regard toward each person she sees in her practice. Her
ultimate objective is to provide her patients with the utmost respect and to
encourage self-empowerment toward a better self.
Faith Powers, Psy.D.Faith J. Powers, Psy.D. graduated with her Doctorate of Psychology from the Florida Institute of Technology in 2007. She completed her post-doctoral residency at a community mental health facility in Florida in 2008 and is currently licensed in the state of Florida. Dr. Powers has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in the individual and group therapeutic format as well as in assessing children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Powers provides services for children presenting with mood disorder, behavioral disorder, ADHD, and Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Her services address social skill development, social/emotional reciprocity, poor frustration tolerance, and behavioral rigidity. She incorporates parent-training services to develop behavioral interventions implemented by parents in the home to address inattention and problematic behaviors. With adolescents and adults, Dr. Powers treats disorders such as adjustment issues, depression, and anxiety. She may assist a patient in identifying and addressing negative thoughts and beliefs which may contribute to their difficulties, develop improved stategies to resolve life challenges, and develop stress-management and relaxation skills. Dr. Powers believes seeking assistance is one of the bravest steps a person can take when faced with life's difficulties. Her aim is to provide support to the client throughout the therapeutic process. She offers evening and weekend appointments to help facilitate the treatment of her patients.
